From War To Peace

A Parent Education Program

The seminar suggests specific skills parents can use so that their children can avoid much of the pain and turmoil associated with marital separation/divorce. The From War to Peace program is modeled after the P.E.A.C.E. program developed by Hofstra University.

The orientation of the program is based on two well-researched principles:
1. Children do better when there is less hostility between their parents.
2. Given fit parents, where safety is not a concern, children do better when they have access to, and meaningful relationships with both parents. Parents are encouraged to assume responsibility for creating a post-divorce environment in which their children are their first priority.

In the From War to Peace seminars parents receive information about:

  • The effect of divorce on children of different ages
  • The child’s point of view. Factors associated with better outcomes for children.
  • How to avoid putting children “in the middle”
  • Do’s and don’ts for parents
  • How parents and children can feel in control of their lives by making responsible decisions and determining when and when not to utilize the courts
  • Remarriage and stepfamily relationships.
  • Domestic violence and child abuse
  • Available community resources

Every effort is made to ensure that parents have safe and barrier-free access to this parent education program. Therefore, it is our practice that ex-spouses or ex-partners do not attend the same sessions. Additionally, we are required to screen participants for enrollment eligibility specifically as it relates to exposure to domestic violence. Therefore, we ask you to answer specific domestic violence questions on the enrollment application.

Sliding fee scale available, and if a participant’s income falls within federal poverty guidelines, there will be no charge for the class. Proof of income will be required in order to process sliding fee.
