International Adoptive Support Services

The Adoption Center has over 20 years of experience working with a variety of international placing agencies, as well as a variety of countries. Although we do not function as the placing agency for international adoptions, we are an authorized New York State adoption agency capable of providing the following services:
• Information - We provide information to help prospective families determine if international adoption is the right choice for them. Information includes literature, referral resources and seminars on preparing for international adoption.
• Home Studies – The agency conducts home studies and applicants are screened according to New York State, United States Immigration, the International Adoption Agency and the child’s country of birth.
• Parent Training – Ten hours of adoptive parent training is required under the Hague Treaty on International Adoption. Classes begin in the fall 2007.
• Immigration Assistance – We provide guidance when applying to U.S. Immigration for approval. At times, we can serve as an advocate for the adoptive parent should questions or problems arise with their application.
• Post-Placement Reports – These reports are required by the child’s birth country and assure that the family is doing well and the child’s needs are being met. During these visits we offer support to adoptive parents regarding adjustment issues, parenting questions, referrals for services, etc.
• Post-Adoption Counseling – The counseling staff are experienced therapists with knowledge of adoption issues as they affect children and parents at different stages of development — we have a lifetime commitment to adoptive families.
