Parent Aide Program

Our mission is to prevent the placement of children in foster care by working with parents to maintain a safe and supportive home environment. Specially trained parent aides provide in-home visitation to parents in Broome County when there are allegations of abuse and neglect, or when there is a goal of preventing abuse and neglect.

Services

Trained parent aides serve as role models for positive parent-child interaction. Our qualified aides help to:

  • Educate and support parents
  • Demonstrate parenting skills
  • Supervise parent-child visitation
  • Skill-building on behavior management
  • Child development
  • Budgeting
  • Nutrition
  • Organizational skills

They offer parent education and skill-building on behavior management, child development, budgeting, nutrition and organizational skills. The parent aides may also supervise visitation between the child and the parent, when the children have been placed in foster care. Assistance is given in accessing community, medical and educational resources, helping families to become independent and knowledgeable in these areas.
